On Friday, August 1st, a powerful transformation unfolded in Limbe as 56 adolescent girls reclaimed their voices and agency.
In a one-day workshop co-hosted by Visionary Care Foundation – Cameroon (VCF Cameroon) and the Women and Family Empowerment Centre, Limbe, these girls came together to learn, share, and support one another in a safe, empowering session focused on preventing sexual abuse.
This session was part of our end-of-holiday workshop series, a timely intervention as many girls prepare to return to their communities during a vacation period that, unfortunately, often brings increased risks of abuse.
- Creating Safe Spaces for Courageous Conversations:
In an atmosphere of trust and encouragement, the girls boldly voiced affirmations that reflected their awareness, strength, and renewed sense of self-worth:
- “I have a right to say NO.”
- “My body is my pride.”
- “It is NOT my fault.”
- “Boys too can be raped.”
- “I can love all but trust none, because anyone can be a perpetrator.”
They were guided through practical knowledge and skills to:
- Recognize the signs of abuse and grooming tactics
- Assert boundaries and understand the principles of consent
- Navigate online spaces safely
- Access help and support services when needed
- What Stood Out Most?
- Their resilience.
- Their readiness to speak up.
- Their commitment to stand together against abuse and injustice.
At VCF Cameroon, we are deeply inspired by their strength and remain committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces where girls are heard, supported, and equipped to resist abuse and demand dignity.
