We Paused to Strengthen Our Capacities

“Building a Stronger Response to Gender-Based Violence”

At Visionary Care Foundation (VCF Cameroon), we know that the strength of our response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) begins with the strength of our team.

From October 13–18, 2025, our field operations came to a thoughtful pause. Instead of being in the field, we gathered at our main office in Buea for a week of reflection, learning, and transformation — a time to deepen our skills and renew our shared commitment to survivors of GBV.

This intensive capacity-building workshop, supported by the Réseau des Jeunes Féministes d’Afrique Centrale (REJEFEMAC) through their project to strengthen young feminist-led organizations in Central Africa, and funded by the French Embassy in Yaoundé, brought new energy and purpose to our work.

Learning, Unlearning, and Growing Together

Throughout the week, our team engaged in interactive sessions focused on strengthening both technical and ethical foundations of our GBV response.

We explored survivor-centered approaches to case management, unpacked the power dynamics that shape communication during crisis response, and revisited the core humanitarian principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, and Independence.

But this was more than just a training — it was a space for honest reflection.
Team members shared their experiences from the field, examined past challenges, and collectively shaped strategies to serve survivors with greater empathy, accountability, and professionalism.

Proof That Investment in People Works

The results were remarkable.

By the end of the training, over 70% of our team recorded more than a 75% improvement in knowledge and confidence. This growth wasn’t just visible on paper — it was felt in the way participants communicated, collaborated, and envisioned their roles in improving survivor support systems.

Moments of laughter, deep conversations, and shared purpose filled the room. We left not only more skilled but also more united — reaffirmed in our belief that when teams grow, communities heal.

Our Appreciation

We extend heartfelt gratitude to #REJEFEMAC and the #FrenchEmbassy in Yaoundé for believing in the power of capacity strengthening. Their support made this transformative experience possible.

Together, we are shaping a more accountable, compassionate, and effective GBV response system in Cameroon — one that places survivors at the center and strengthens the people who stand beside them.
